DAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS IN KONIN
On April 15th, 2011 at the Stanisław Staszic Mining and Energy Management School Complex in Konin was held a meeting devoted to the Righteous Among the Nations.
At the invitation of the organizers of this event – Anna Burakowska and Joanna Rak, history teachers from the School Complex – as part of the “Day of the Righteous” the school was visited by Jadwiga Szczeszak and Lucjanna Kuźnicka who were honored with the title “Righteous Among the Nations” for rescuing Jews during the Second World War.
During the meeting, the Righteous shared their memories and stories from the time of the Nazi occupation and told the students about their personal experience connected with rescuing Jews. The topic of the Holocaust memory was also presented through a lecture about the history of Jews during the Second World War and through interviews with the Polish Righteous.

The Konin school is taking part in the project “Bringing the Righteous to Polish Schools” carried out as part of the program “Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History” thanks to the financial support of the Governmental Program – Civic Initiatives Fund.
The project “Bringing the Righteous to Polish Schools” is based on the conviction that the conduct of people who risked their own lives and the lives of their families to save others is a perfect model for patriotic education and for tightening bonds between generations.
The main goal of the program „Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History” is to help schools find witnesses of history and organize “Days of the Righteous” – meetings of students with unknown heroes, often close neighbors.
The project is financially supported by the Governmental Program – Civic Initiatives Fund.
