THE DAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS IN RADŁÓW
The Righteous Stefan Mika has recently visited the Cardinal Stanisław Hozjusz Secondary School in Radłów. During the Second World War Stefan Mika and his parents Karolina and Paweł were hiding in Zaborów near Kraków their neighbor Mendel Tider together with his friend Józef Langdorf.
“The young people were listening to the Righteous with concentration. He described his war experiences, the story of rescue and told about his postwar contacts with the rescued Jews. It was also an opportunity to discuss the broader subjects of Polish-Jewish relations and Polish anti-Semitism – especially in the context of the recent publication of The Golden Harvest by Jan T. Gross” – wrote Marek Urbanek, director of the Secondary School in Radłów in his letter addressed to the project “Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History”.
Students of third grades participated in the meeting. Among the materials used to prepare the Day of the Righteous were educational materials from the website www.sprawiedliwi.org.pl, the publication Indifference hurts and the albums Poles who rescued Jews during the Holocaust – Recalling Forgotten History. The mayor of Radłów, Mr Zbigniew Mączka, was also present at the meeting.
This is the fourth Day of the Righteous organized during the project Righteous in Polish Schools, carried out since October 2010 as part of the grant of the Civic Initiatives Fund in 2010.
