Testimony of Jan Poddębniak

November 2010, M. Grudzińska, A.Marczuk

During the Nazi occupation, priest Jan Poddębniak helped two Jews, Sara and Lea Bass, to go from Lublin to Germany.

‘It should be known how they received the documents that allowed them to leave. The fact that they had birth and christening certificates from St. Paul’s parish was not enough. It was the worker of the Office of Employment, the so-called Arbeitsamt, who made the decision. He gave the documents saying that a person was allowed to go to Germany.’

[The rest of the story will be available in translation soon.]

The interview with Jan Poddębniak edited by M. Grudzińska and A. Marczuk is published here courtesy of the State Museum in Majdanek.
