Association of “Children of the Holocaust” in Poland

The Association of “Children of the Holocaust” in Poland: a social organization which consists of people persecuted as Jews during the Nazi occupation who were no older than 13 in September 1939 or were born during WWII. The association was founded in 1991. It is an educational, as well as self-help organization, i.e. it provides psychological support and helps find the missing relatives. It also organizes seminars, issues a newsletter and conducts publishing activity (“The Last Eyewitnesses of the Holocaust Speak” - volumes of memoirs). The association has presently nearly 800 members and has its branches in Warsaw, Cracow, Wrocław and Gdańsk.

The term was created within the framework of the project Zapisywanie świata żydowskiego w Polsce [recording the Jewish environment in Poland], whose author is Anka Grupińska, a well-known Polish journalist and writer, specializing in the modern history of the Polish Jews. The project, initiated in 2006 by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, consists in recording interviews with Polish Jews from all generations.
