Story of Rescue

Transkrypcja

The family of Anna and Konstanty Kutyłowski, together with my grandmother (my mom’s moher), Marianna Toroszewska, her son, Antoni Toroszewski and his wife, Maria Toroszewska nee Światowska, were hiding a leatherworker named Taube – I don’t remember his first name – and his family. Mr Taube didn’t look at all like a Jew and he moved freely around the village. Unfortunately, he had bad luck to come across a German police patrol. And even though he did not have that appearance but he had this fear inside him, and he started running, and they killed him with a machine gun. (…) Initially, they had a bunker dug out near the Mienia stream. And there, late in the evening or at night, my grandparents brought them food, in buckets. And sometimes they would come into the house. (…) Regrettably, the Taube family had been turned in, probably by a neighbour. And that notification, well, that denunciation reached the blue police. And the blue police came and dragged the whole family out from the bunker at Mienia – it’s a little stream near Duchnów village – and took them away. (...) Well, later on, when only that… Marian was left, well, until this denunciation he even had a shelter in the house. Well, but, as I said, near the end of 1943 he was taken away by my uncle Antoni Toroszewski to the Janowskie Forests and to the partisans.
